Can homeopathy help with the winter blahs?

"The cure for boredom is curiosity. There is no cure for curiosity."

Dorothy Parker, Author, Humorist, Poet

Football is over, taxes are coming due, the holidays are long over, and in many places the weather is downright boring. So why are we so sad and grumpy? Whether it is a let down of a bad ski season, gray foggy days, or the notion of another 6 weeks of winter, for many people S.A.D. (Seasonal Affective Disorder) is at its worse this time of year.  We often refer to SAD disorder as the blahs.  It's one of those words that sounds just like what it means (onomatopoeia) !

When discussing the blahs it quickly becomes clear that the blahs deserve a space of their own. Lack of motivation, initiative, ideas, or zip, or the dominance of symptoms like TV 'rerun-itis', 'maybe-next-week-itis', or the teen typical, 'I don't cares,' might not seem like enough to call it the blues, but blahs, boredom and even mild indifference are signs that energies are getting out of balance. Homeopathy can put you and yours back in the groove before the blahs become blues or lower immunity to the local flu. Homeopathy is a non-invasive option supporting a natural boost from within.

Phosphorus - Whenever homeopathy and energy come up in the same sentence, the remedy Phosphorus and its many phosphate connections in the cell salt remedies should follow soon after. As the sun seems to feed the energy in these outgoing, lively individuals, short dark days of winter and changes in temperature can be very draining and saddening to the people who need this remedy. So if fatigue, colds and restless nerves take over when the sun goes under, this one is probably for you.

Causticum - If you are too chilly to enjoy cold dry weather, this remedy could be your match, especially if changes in temperature bother you until it changes to mild, wet weather which helps you relax both emotionally and physically. Worrying too much about what might go wrong for loved ones is another key to this remedy.

Rhus tox - Though you had best get some sun treatment if SAD is your issue, this remedy stands out among the best for symptoms and individuals who feel worse for cold cloudy weather.

Natrum mur - 'Haunted by past unpleasant memories' is a symptom picture too many of us have a hard time avoiding. This individual cell salt can help you bring down the walls built by long-suppressed emotions.

Kali phos - This universal ‘debuzzer’ for babies, kids and adults, is made from a mineral compound critical to nerve and brain cells (though also in muscles, blood and intercellular fluids). Its many applications for both pain and emotional symptoms has made it one of our best selling single remedies. When loss of nerve power or agitation result from injury, illness, stress or sadness, Kali phos helps nerves recover, relax and regain strength.

If the case involves depression, anxiety and/or panic, or seems beyond the range of self care, we recommend consultation with a licensed practitioner.
