Cantharis  (Spanish fly)

This one burns. Because of this pesky insect’s burning sting, its remedy has the ability to heal a wide range of minor burns and burning pains caused by anything from sunburns to scalding urine. Many tout its ability to prevent blistering if taken soon after minor burning– especially sunburns. As with most burning pains, Cantharis symptoms feel better with cold water (though you should never apply cold right away to a burn as the contrast causes more trouble). When scalded by hot tea, coffee or other beverages, tongues and throats can find quick, soothing relief in Cantharis.
     Which takes us to the membranes. Cantharis’ burn relief is more than skin deep when it comes to urinary symptoms. Whether desire is constant, frequent or ineffective, Cantharis can relieve burning cutting pain and speed healing of incontinence– though professional advice is always recommended with urinary symptoms. Membranes in the stomach or bowels (including diarrhea) may find relief from burning pain in Cantharis, as well.
     As for its modalities (better for, worse for), Cantharis applies best when there is a desire for cold drinks, though drinking them can worsen symptoms, hot coffee aggravates every symptom, and warm applications may soothe things a bit. Though very few mental symptoms are recorded, patients needing Cantharis are likely to be irritable and easily angered, as one might expect.
