I am 63 years
old now, and I had been prone to earaches since I was a
child. I can remember my mother sending me to bed with a
hot water bottle to ease the pain. About three years ago
I started taking
Aconite 30x and
Chamomilla 30x simultaneously as soon as an earache
started. I have not had an earache in a year. This
works for my dog too!
Judith S.
This happened about 25 years ago, when my 2nd daughter,
Tina was just a baby. She had had many many ear
infections, I had taken her back numerous times to the
Doctor. I took her to an ear nose and throat specialist.
He sent me home with an even stronger medication, but
told me if it didn't work, we were running out of
options. On the way home, I decided to try reading in my
homeopathy book, after an hour I decided to try
Belladonna, I had also read that you should give it to
them every 15 minutes for the first hour, so I tried
that too. I took her back to the Dr. for her appointment
the next week, and he told me that her ears were better
than he had ever seen them.

Flying High? Prepare Your Ears
You can reduce
your risk of trouble by clearing your ears before you
ask them to pop at all the altitude changes.
•
Kali mur for a few days before a flight can help
ears stay clear ahead of time, especially if you’ve had
a cold or sinus congestion recently. This cell salt is
critical to breaking down whitish congestion or
secretions on our membranes and skin tissue (acne,
thrush, colds...).
•
Borax in air or just before the flight will keep
them popping with ease. Also helpful if hearing“ we’re
preparing for our descent” ties you in knots. When ears,
minds and tummies do not like down ward motion, this
makes a great travel companion.
P.S. These are
safe solutions for baby’s ears, too.

Hepar sulph
(Hahnemann’s Calcium Sulphide)
“An excellent
remedy for stimulating the immune system” -
Dr. Gérard Pacaud, Homeopathy Encyclopedia
|
|
In his book,
Desktop Companion to Physical Pathology,
Roger Morrison, MD, defines the use of
Hepar sulph for Otitis Media: Acute
otitis media or acute flares of painful
otitis in long-smoldering cases.
Ear: Catarrh of
ear leading to hearing loss.
Splinter sensation inside the ear. Often
associated with sore throats.
The physician is awakened by a frantic
parent and in the background a shrieking
child is heard throughout the phone call.
Worse: Late at night. Cold or open air.
Wind. Drafts.
Especially sensitive to dry, cold weather.
Touch. Lying on painful side.
Better: Warmth. Wrapping the ear.
General: Must be well covered; especially
the ear must be covered. Sometimes
uncovering even one hand or foot aggravates
the ear.
Disposition: Very sensitive to pain; screams
with the pain. Hates to be examined or
touched.
In
his book, Healing Childhood Ear Infections,
Michael Schmidt offers these details:“...
There is frequently a nasal discharge that
is at first watery, then becomes thick,
yellow, and offensive. There is
intense throbbing pain in the ear,
accompanied by diminished hearing. These
children are irritable and sensitive. Lick
the
Chamomilla child, the
Hepar child is cross and easily angered.
They can be provoked to a tantrum with
little effort. A hallmark of the
Hepar child is oversensitivity to touch,
cold, and pain....” |

Pulsatilla
(Wind flower)“
Constantly
changing pains: ‘Everything is variable with
Pulsatilla’.” - Dr. GérardPacaud,
Homeopathy Encyclopedia |
|
In the same
book, Desktop Companion to Physical
Pathology, Roger Morrison, MD, discusses the
use of
Pulsatilla for Otitis Media:
The most frequent remedy in both acute and
chronic [please note this requires
professional guidance] otitis.
Begins with a “cold” that develops into
otitis media. Ear: Painful fullness or
bursting sensation, especially in the left
ear (however, also the right ear can be
affected).
Ear stopped with pulsing sensation or even
pulsing, rushing noises. Pain can
extend to face and teeth.
Worse: Heat. Night. Upon blowing the nose.
Better: Open or cool air. Motion, gentle
walking.
General: Usually warm and better open air.
Fever, thirstlessness, changeable condition;
now playing, now sick.
Discharges are thick, bland, copious, green
or yellow.
Disposition: Weepy and needs affection and
caresses and wants to be carried slowly and
tenderly.
Michael Schmidt’s book adds:“ This is one of
the most frequently used remedies in otitis
media and is suitable for almost all types
of ear pain. Children needing
Pulsatilla tend to be gentle, weepy,
sensitive, and love to be held. They want
attention and are easily consoled...
Their cheeks are pale. They feel better when
in open, fresh air. There is a thick, bland,
yellowish-green nasal discharge. The eardrum
is swollen and red, with fluid. ...” |

Silica
(Silicon
dioxide)“
Main actions -
Problems with nutrition; anxiety; chronic
headaches; recurrent infections, slow to
heal.” -
Dr. Gérard Pacaud, Homeopathy Encyclopedia
|
|
Roger Morrison states: Children in need of
Silica are likely to experience some
discharge from the ear. They are sensitive
and anxious.
Silica is often indicated when a cold or
bronchial condition is long-standing or slow
to respond. Symptoms are severe. There is
often roaring in the ears, and the child is
sensitive to noise. The
Silica child is cold, chilly, and wants
plenty of warm clothing. He hates drafts,
and his hands and feet are icy cold. There
is offensive sweat on the hands, feet, and
armpits. Silica is the remedy most often
indicated when there is pain behind the ear
... (also
Hepar sulph.)
Mentally these children are yielding,
faint-hearted, and anxious. They are
nervous, excitable, and sensitive, but can
be obstinate. Silica children tend to be
weak and easily exhausted.
Symptoms are worse: from cold, open air,
winter, damp weather, cold food or drink,
lying on the painful side, eating, and in
morning.
Symptoms are better: from warmth.
details from Dr. Michael Schmidt“
.... Stopped ears, often with popping,
crackling noise in ear, better from yawning
or swallowing
.... Discomfort makes the child bore in the
ears, even in his sleep.
Cheesy-smelling ear discharge...” |
