A Traveler's Tale

When my sister Ivy and I were planning our annual family hiking trip, Ivy announced that she had the new Luyties Handy Kit and was going to convince us that homeopathy not only works but saves vacations and a whole lot more.

First she insisted everyone take Bioplasma for a few days before to "build our resistance and gear up for a healthy trip." We agreed. Feeling fit, we packed up the car. But I lifted the luggage with too much vigor. Twang! I twist my back. Ivy whips out a remedy called Backache/Sciatica #199. I admit it did help my back relax right away and by the time she finished packing the car, I felt pretty good.

We were too excited and worried to sleep that night spinning on a thousand "what ifs", including what if we don't get any sleep tonight? It's a 10 hour drive tomorrow and 6 more the next. We took a little Insomnia Tissue A and were out by the third sheep. Next morning we all piled in. Mom, dad, kids, Fido and all. With a little more Backache remedy and a lot of patience, the day went smoothly.

That evening we stayed at a clean little hotel. 4am we woke to shouts of 'FIRE! FIRE! GET OUT' and a loud alarm. Once outside, her daughter, Daisy, couldn't wait to see what was happening, while my little Violet went into a total panic. She could not stop crying even when it was obvious we are all safe and the fire was under control. Ivy to the rescue with a dose of something called Aconite. It calmed Violet immediately. During our four hour wait for the yellow tape to be cut, we went to a breakfast place and all gobbled up the slightly undercooked pancakes and side orders. Bad idea! Soon after we got back on the road, the gaseous gurgling was too loud to keep secret. Ivy's Carbo veg successfully soothed most of us, but Mom's would not settle down until Recovery Remedy #77 was given a chance. It actually soothed her gas, headache, nerves and a lot more, too. Ivy said one of the first lessons in homeopathy is that different remedies treat different people! You have to go by the individual's symptoms. We all nodded and drove on.

We made it to our camp ground in time to set up and still take a walk.  Unfortunately Dad's joints were being very cranky, predicting the storm ahead no doubt. Ivy said she had just the thing in the "rusty gate" remedy Rhus Tox. He finally agreed to take it, after much assurance that the source, poison oak, could do no harm. Another homeopathic success! He was playing fetch with Fido in a very short time.

Of course Dad's storm predictor knees were right- the night became a struggle to stay dry. When my niece, Daisy, began to scream for help at 3am, I thought it was her fear of thunderstorms, but actually she had one of her profuse nosebleeds. Believe it or not, Ivy's Handy kit had just the right remedy for her, too. After one dose of Phosphorus her nose stopped bleeding, after a second she slept through the lightening with no problem. The same remedy worked for Fido, who was cowering under the cot and whining with each crack and boom. When they were both full of boundless energy the next day, I conceded I needed to find out more about these little white pills.

The storm passed, we rose to a soggy but delicious campfire breakfast. I was given a couple of doses of Cold Solutions with Zinc #399 after sneezing and sniffles set in (I never did get a cold). Ivy packed her lightweight kit in her backpack and off we went. The Arnica came in very handy when Ivy slipped and hit her head, and for several other bumps and bruises. With a few swipes of the Bump Stick no one even showed bruises at the end of the day. It worked very well on my chapped lips, too.  With Insomnia , Rhus Tox, Backache and Arnica, as needed, we all slept well that night and set out for a higher hill the next day. The weather was quite hot and the sun got the best of Mom. We all worried when a throbbing headache had her dizzy, as she was so flushed and hot already. Out from Ivy's magic kit came Belladonna to save the day. We found a shady stream to cool off in and mom made a full and fast recovery. We were all convinced. A few more days and several more doses later, we were home and ordering our own kits and catalogues from Luyties 1-800-HOMEOPATHY.
