Heat
Headaches - Key Singles
Belladonna
- #1 for heat: as soon as the face gets
flushed, especially if not perspiring, get
this remedy out. The full picture includes dilated pupils, a
throbbing headache, radiating heat with
little or no sweat. A cold compress to the head
may feel the most soothing.
Bryonia
- This headache might not start while on the field, but if a
worse-with-motion frontal headache sets in after the game or
the next morning, Bryonia can save your day.
Ferrum
phos - As the anti-inflammatory cell salt, this remedy
relieves heat related headaches (when temples and vertex throb
or ache), weakness, fatigue and more.
Lachesis
- As heat is a part of almost everything Lachesis, it can be a
very cooling remedy. Hot flashes, hot sweats, hot heavy
headaches and the fatigue that follows heat, all can find help
here.
Pulsatilla
- Though they love fresh air, and dread stuffy rooms,
Pulsatilla people wilt in the sun with pressing 'as if
bruised' throbbing headaches.
Common
solutions too often forgotten in the heat of the moment:
#1
Find the coolest least humid environment. If air conditioning
and a fan are too far away, shade with a
newspaper fan will have to do. At least get something
to shade your head.
#2
Lie down with feet up and loosen tight clothes.
#3
Get wet - a wet towel, sheet, or clothing
#4
If not too nauseous, drink tepid (preferably not iced) water
perhaps with a pinch of salt or a
pretzel or cracker if handier. Electrolyte drinks are
great but sugar is not so balance the benefits.
#5
Consult a practitioner ASAP
Hint:
Acclimate yourself to the heat. Avoid a full day in the heat
and sun until you have worked up to it
-- starting as low as 5 minutes a day. So if your
child just signed up for little league, spend a few weeks
getting you both prepped to take the
heat.
For
Sun Burn
The
new talk is that we too often want a cold splash which makes
the difference in temperature even greater and can lead to
worse burning. (Same for scalds and burns.) So it is best to
start with tepid applications and let it cool with your skin.
Ideally you mix up a bath with Calendula and Hypericum
tinctures in the water and stay in it as it cools.
Cantharis:
a dose or two can ease the pain and minimize the blistering of
burns and scalds with rawness and smarting, blistering
sunburns, relieved by cool applied
Urtica
urens - pain and itch relief from prickly heat to sunburn
with intense burning, itching and red blotches.
Keokuk
Burn Ointment - Keep one by the stove, one by the iron and
one by the pool! This ointment is a wonder for easing burns,
scalds and sunburns, and preventing blisters.
Feeling
Full?
Over-indulging
at summer picnics and barbeques is common. Sometimes,
even small amounts of the wrong foods during hot days can hold
you down. While you may be disciplined enough to avoid
these problems, chances are you know someone who isn't.
Keep these remedies around for just those occasions:
Indigestion
#178 - This combination provides nutritionally supportive
relief for less drastic complaints than our other digestive
combinations.
Gas
Tabs Wise's #413 - covers all levels of gastric upset from
digestive to emotional stresses.
Acidity
Tissue C - This cell salt combination is a jewel for
occasional or recurring acid stomachs, gas-related headaches
and flatulence.
Hangover/Recovery
#77 - My brain feels bruised, my hair hurts, my head is
hammering... Sound familiar? Before your next big party,
you might want to stock up on #77.
