Because it has many emotional and many acute physical applications, Causticum (Hahnemann's combination of potassium bisulphate and calcium hydrate compounds) deserves a place in the medicine chest. Causticum's emotional picture often includes anxious forebodings, grief or a sensitivity to the grief or injustice that others suffer, which leads one leaning a little heavy on sympathetic causes with a tendencey to think the glass half empty. Its more general applications include: blistering burns, an exhausting rattling night cough with stubborn mucus (cannot cough deep enough), hoarseness from overuse and a dry burning sore throat; urinary problems including bed-wetting, burning pain and frequent desire; stiff joints, backs and necks with burning tearing pains that are better for warmth; and foot toe cramps or warts near nails. Burning pains, cravings for sips of cold water, and craving for smoked meat or fish are typical Causticum keynotes. |
