This hot little quartet is great for fever and/or flu whether starting
suddenly or following a slow moving cold that finally reveals its heat.
Aconite and Belladonna cover sudden fevers that often follow exposure to
cold dry wind. Aconite fevers are a little tamer than Belladonna's. Its
cheeks are pinkish red, pale, or one pale and one red; it makes you feel hot
inside chilly outside; and feels worse at night or in the evening.
A Belladonna patient's cheeks are so red they radiate heat; its intense heat
alternates with chills, and limbs may feel cold while the head burns.
Grinding teeth, dry eyes, hypersensitivity to light, hot-tempered
irritability and thirstlessness all mark a need for Belladonna.
Slower
moving sweatless fevers often following colds, are covered here by Bryonia
and Gelsemium. Bryonia's flu sufferer just hurt- the head throbs, joints and skin ache, and eyes are sore and dry; you burn and then freeze but do not want to move
or be bothered in any way. Gelsemium's flu patient is restless, but feels too heavy and
dull to do much more than shiver. With this foursome, you should find help
for simple acute fevers. But always keep in mind that if fevers go too high
or last too long (48 hours, 24 or less for babies), professional guidance from a licensed practitioner is highly recommended.
